Scope of Work:
Develop and deliver structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) programs for operations and maintenance personnel, focusing on the newly commissioned process equipment and systems.
Ensure all OJT activities align with the commissioning sequence, safety standards, and operational requirements of the expanded plant.
Conduct site-based practical training sessions, demonstrations, and walkthroughs on plant areas such as crushing, milling, flotation, thickening, filtration, tailings, utilities, and support facilities.
Create competency checklists and assessment tools for evaluating trainee readiness for independent operation and maintenance.
Work closely with commissioning engineers, discipline leads, and vendor specialists to incorporate latest technical updates into training sessions.
Coordinate pre-startup reviews and on-site coaching for personnel during initial energization, cold commissioning, hot commissioning, and start-up phases.
Identify training gaps during commissioning and develop corrective training plans to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Record and track individual competency progress, issuing certification of OJT completion when criteria are met.
Promote a strong safety culture during training, emphasizing risk awareness, permit-to-work systems, isolation (LOTO), and emergency response protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare OJT modules, covering system familiarization, operational procedures, start-up/shutdown sequences, troubleshooting, and emergency handling.
Develop visual aids, training manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for field training purposes.
Maintain close coordination with the Training Coordinator, Commissioning Leads, and Operations Readiness Team to schedule training activities in line with commissioning milestones.
Evaluate and document the competency development of trainees through observation, practical demonstrations, and technical questioning.
Assist in preparing handover documentation for operations with evidence of completed training and competency assessments.
Continuously improve training materials based on feedback from commissioning activities, vendor inputs, and operational learnings.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical, or Process Engineering)
(or equivalent technical qualification with strong plant operational background).
Experience:
Minimum 8 years of experience in mineral processing plants (preferably copper/gold).
Minimum 3 years experience in plant commissioning and/or operation readiness training in an EPC or expansion project environment.
Proven experience conducting site-based operational training or technical coaching during commissioning/start-up phases.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong technical understanding of mineral processing plant systems: crushing, grinding, flotation, dewatering, tailings, utilities.
Good knowledge of safe systems of work, Permit to Work (PTW) processes, and LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures.
Skilled in preparing and delivering practical training and competency evaluations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with multicultural crews.
Ability to adapt training to various learner levels – from fresh operators to experienced maintenance technicians.
Good documentation and report writing skills.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management) is an advantage.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) for training material preparation.
