OPERATOR - PORT/LAYDOWN
(National - Site Based)
Some of your duties will include:
Execute safe, efficient cargo handling, vessel interface support, and laydown yard operations for inbound/outbound materials and products (e.g., copper concentrate, anodes/cathodes, gold doré shipments, reagents, fuel, containers, project cargo).
Operate heavy equipment, maintain inventory accuracy, and uphold HSE and security standards to minimize turnaround time, cargo damage, and environmental risk.
1) Port Operations & Vessel Interface
· Support vessel berthing/unberthing and safe access arrangements; coordinate with marine, stevedores, and surveyors.
· Conduct ship‑shore pre‑task briefings/JSA, toolbox talks; ensure gangway safety, exclusion zones, and signaling.
· Assist with loading/unloading of bulk, break‑bulk, containerized, and project cargo according to stow plans, lift plans, and cargo securing standards.
· Ensure cargo integrity (tally, sampling support, moisture checks for concentrate if applicable, seal checks) and accurate reconciliation with BL/manifest.
· Implement dust suppression, spillage control, and housekeeping (5S) during bulk handling.
2) Laydown Yard & Warehouse Interface
· Execute receiving, staging, stacking, segregation, and preservation of goods in laydown areas (including quarantine/inspection zones).
· Apply FIFO/FEFO, critical spares protection (covers, cribbing, desiccants), and corrosion control per item requirements.
· Maintain location accuracy in WMS/ERP and ensure traceability (labels, tags, barcodes/RFID, batch/heat numbers).
· Prepare cargo for dispatch: pick, pack, secure, weigh, and stage for road transport or vessel loading.
3) Equipment Operation
· Safely operate forklifts (up to 16–32T), reach stackers/top loaders, wheel/front‑end loaders, terminal tractors, skid steer, and other yard equipment.
· Perform pre‑start checks, report defects, and coordinate maintenance; apply LOTO when required.
· Act as banksman/rigger for crane lifts within competency; adhere to rigging plans and Sling/Lift best practices.
· Use handheld scanners, weighbridges, moisture meters, sampling tools as needed.
4) HSE, Security & Compliance
· Follow company HSE Management System and permit‑to‑work; complete JSA, Take‑5, STOP/PAUSE when conditions change.
· Comply with ISPS (security checks, restricted areas), IMDG for dangerous goods, and MSDS/SDS for chemicals/reagents.
· Implement spill prevention & emergency response (spill kits, first response containment) and dust/noise control in line with environmental standards.
· Participate in inspections, audits, incident reporting/learning, and safety drills (fire, spill, man‑down).
· Maintain fit‑for‑duty requirements (PPE, fitness, heat stress management, hydration, fatigue controls).
5) Documentation & Systems
· Complete tally sheets, cargo damage reports (CDR), discrepancy reports, and handover logs.
· Update WMS/ERP (receipts, issues, relocations, cycle counts) and support customs/surveyor documentation.
· Ensure chain‑of‑custody for valuable cargo (doré, cathodes) with dual control and security protocols.
6) Continuous Improvement
· Identify and implement Lean/5S/TPM improvements (layout, flow, visual controls, standard work).
· Contribute to toolbox training, peer coaching for safe equipment operation, and near‑miss hazard reporting.
· Support KPI tracking and corrective actions.
What skills and experience do you need?
· Diploma (D3) in Logistics, Mechanical/Electrical, Marine, or related. SMA/SMK or equivalent (technical/vocational preferred) is welcome to apply.
· 3+ years as Port/ Laydown Operator in port/terminal/laydown yard operations in mining, O&G, heavy industry, or container/bulk terminals
· Demonstrated proficiency in heavy equipment operation and cargo handling (bulk, container, project cargo); Exposure to bulk minerals (e.g., copper concentrate) or metals logistics advantageous.
· Certified SIO (Surat Izin Operator) for relevant equipment (forklift, loader, reach stacker); SIM B2 (heavy vehicle); Rigger/Slinger competency (BNSP or company‑approved); K3 (Basic HSE) certification; First Aid/Fire Warden/Spill Response preferred; IMDG awareness (for DG handling); ISPS awareness (port security); Working at Height/Confined Space (as applicable to tasks).
· Safe operation of forklifts, loaders, reach stackers/top loaders, and basic crane signaling; Rigging & lifting fundamentals (WLL, CoG, D/d ratios, selection/inspection of slings & shackles).
· WMS/ERP basics, handheld scanning, weighbridge use; MS Excel familiarity for logs/tallies.
· Understanding of cargo securing (lashings, dunnage, twistlocks/spreaders) and preservation methods.
· Awareness of bulk material hazards (moisture content, angle of repose, dust explosivity), and reagent handling (MSDS).
· Willing to work in a shift system (day/night) and work roster;
· Willing to be placed in the project areas where the company operates with local hire.
