Job Overview
The Hostel Manager is responsible for the overall operation, performance, and guest experience of Mad Monkey Kuta Lombok. This role ensures the hostel maintains high standards in hospitality, social atmosphere, staff management, and financial performance while embodying the Mad Monkey brand culture.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
Oversee daily hostel operations including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and bar/restaurant (if applicable)
Ensure smooth check-in/check-out processes and excellent guest service
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and facility standards across all areas
Handle guest feedback, complaints, and online reviews professionally
Guest Experience & Community Building
Create a fun, social, and inclusive atmosphere aligned with the Mad Monkey brand
Organize and promote events, tours, and activities
Engage with guests to enhance their overall stay and encourage positive reviews
Maintain strong presence in common areas and lead by example
Staff Management
Recruit, train, and supervise local and international staff
Create staff schedules and manage payroll within budget
Foster a positive team culture and high staff morale
Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching
Financial & Administrative Duties
Manage budgets, expenses, and daily cash handling
Monitor occupancy, revenue, and cost control
Prepare reports on performance, sales, and operations
Ensure compliance with local regulations and company policies
Sales & Marketing
Work with the marketing team to promote the hostel
Optimize online presence (OTA platforms, social media, reviews)
Implement local partnerships and promotions
Drive occupancy and revenue growth
Maintenance & Compliance
Ensure property is well-maintained and issues are addressed promptly
Enforce health, safety, and security standards
Coordinate with contractors and suppliers as needed
Requirements
Previous experience in hospitality management (hostel experience preferred)
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Customer-focused mindset with problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Financial acumen and basic budgeting experience
Fluent in English (additional languages are a plus)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Southeast Asia hospitality industry
Background in events or social hospitality concepts
Familiarity with hostel management systems and OTAs
