Some of your duties will include:
The Sr. Supervisor Safety is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with safety programs and policies within the Exploration Department. This role supports operational activities by identifying potential hazards, conducting risk assessments, delivering safety training, and promoting a culture of safety.
Safety Program Implementation:
Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures tailored to the exploration activities.
Ensure compliance with government regulations, industry standards, and company safety protocols.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Control:
Conduct regular risk assessments and safety inspections for exploration activities, including drilling and field operations.
Identify potential hazards and recommend preventive and corrective actions.
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions, and prepare detailed reports with root-cause analysis and corrective measures.
Training and Awareness:
Organize and conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors working within the exploration areas.
Promote safety awareness and a proactive safety culture across all levels of the department.
Coordination and Compliance:
Act as the point of contact for safety matters within the Exploration Department.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into operational planning and execution.
Maintain and update safety documentation, including SOPs, risk registers, and training records.
Emergency Response and Preparedness:
Develop and test emergency response plans specific to exploration activities.
Coordinate drills and ensure teams are well-prepared for emergency situations.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor and evaluate safety performance metrics.
Provide regular reports to the management team on safety performance and areas for improvement.
What skills and experience do you need?
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; Relevant certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent) are highly preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in safety coordination or a similar role, preferably in mining or exploration projects; Experience working in remote or challenging environments is a plus.
Strong understanding of safety regulations and standards in the mining industry; Proficient in conducting risk assessments and hazard analysis; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse teams; Ability to lead safety training sessions and deliver clear instructions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
Excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written and computer literate;
Willingness to work in a remote project site and adapt to challenging conditions.
Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate in off-road conditions.
