AI ENGINEER

The AI Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered solutions that support the organization's digital health initiatives, program implementation, and operational processes. The role ensures scalable, reliable, and ethical AI systems by collaborating with cross-functional teams to build intelligent applications, optimize workflows, and deliver data-driven solutions aligned with organizational needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and coordinate the technical design, end-to-end implementation, and execution of AI pipelines for Document Data Extraction (AI OCR), Predictive Modeling, and Computer Vision (AI Pill Counting for bottle and blister packaging).
Create, develop, evaluate, validate, and optimize AI prototypes using statistical analysis before scaling them into production-ready systems.
Optimize AI models for efficient inference on resource-constrained edge devices, including mobile devices used by field staff.
Help coordinate and automate data pipelines and integrate AI outputs directly into operational systems, such as KoboToolbox and live dashboards, to ensure real-time visibility for stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Bachelor's degree, with a Master's preferred, in Computer Science, Informatics Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields, specializing in AI or Machine Learning.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end AI projects.
Familiarity with OCR and Computer Vision technologies, such as Tesseract, PaddleOCR, OpenCV, and YOLO.
Experience with SQL, Git, Docker, and Linux environments.
Knowledge of cloud platforms, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and ML deployment is an advantage.
Familiarity with MLflow, Airflow, or similar MLOps tools is a plus.
Experience integrating AI solutions with APIs and data platforms is preferred.
