The Senior Engineer Process Control is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining process control systems (PLC/DCS/APC) to ensure safe, stable, and efficient operation of fixed plant processing facilities including Crushing, Milling, Pebble, Pump & Piping, Screen, and Conveyor systems.
This role focuses on improving plant performance, maximizing throughput and recovery, minimizing downtime, and supporting digital transformation initiatives through advanced control strategies and data analytics.
Some of your duties will include:
A. Process Control System Management
Develop, maintain, and optimize control strategies for PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems across processing plant areas.
Ensure high availability and reliability of control systems and instrumentation.
Perform system configuration, logic modification, loop tuning, and troubleshooting.
Maintain control system documentation, backups, and change management records.
B. Advanced Process Control & Optimization
Design and implement Advanced Process Control (APC) strategies (e.g., PID tuning, model predictive control).
Analyze plant performance data to identify improvement opportunities in throughput, recovery, and energy efficiency.
Collaborate with Metallurgy and Operations teams to optimize process parameters.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data analytics and digital tools.
C. Instrumentation & Automation Support
Provide technical support for instrumentation (flow, pressure, level, temperature, analyzers, etc.).
Ensure calibration, maintenance, and reliability of field instruments.
Support troubleshooting control and instrumentation issues impacting production.
D. Maintenance & Reliability Engineering
Develop and improve preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for control systems.
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for control system failures and process instability.
Support shutdown planning and execution related to control systems.
Monitor system performance KPIs and recommend corrective actions.
E. Projects & System Improvement
Lead and support control system upgrade projects (PLC/DCS migration, APC implementation).
Participate in commissioning and start-up of new plant areas or modifications.
Evaluate new technologies (digitalization, AI, real-time optimization tools).
Ensure all engineering changes comply with Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
F. Safety, Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with HSE standards, Permit to Work, and safety regulations.
Apply safe design principles in control systems (interlocks, trips, fail-safe systems).
Support audits and ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
G. Stakeholder Coordination
Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Metallurgy, and IT/Automation teams.
Provide technical coaching and guidance to Engineers, Supervisors, and Technicians.
Manage external vendors and contractors related to control systems.
H. Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Prepare performance reports related to process stability, uptime, and control efficiency.
Develop dashboards and monitoring tools for real-time plant performance.
Drive standardization and best practices across control systems.
What skills and experience do you need?
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering/ Instrumentation & Control Engineering/ Automation Engineering or related discipline
Have minimum 8-10 years of working experiences in process control / automation in mining, mineral processing, oil & gas, or heavy industry is a must; At least have 5 years in a supervisory in process control engineering roles or 3 years in similar role as Senior Engineer – Process Control with strong exposure to Crushing, Milling (SAG/Ball Mill), Flotation, Pumping, Conveyor systems
Strong knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider); DCS systems (ABB, Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson); SCADA systems
Good understanding of process plant operations (Crushing, Grinding, Flotation, Dewatering)
Experience in Control loop tuning (PID), Advanced Process Control (APC), Instrumentation systems and calibration
Familiar with Industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP); Data analytics tools and real-time monitoring systems
Strong leadership, team coordination and supervision; Good planning, organizational & time management skills; Ability to work both independently and as a team player and thrive in a fast paced, high-pressure environment; Effective communication and work productively with internal and external individuals; Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; High attention to detail, Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Continuous improvement mindset; Safety leadership and compliance.
Certifications (Preferred): Certified Automation Professional (CAP); PLC/DCS vendor certifications (ABB / Siemens / Honeywell / Yokogawa); Training in Advanced Process Control or Data Analytics
Excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written and computer literate; Good in reporting skills
