The Engineer – Industrial Applications is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing engineering applications and tools used across fixed plant processing operations (crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration, utilities).
This role ensures that operational data, monitoring systems, reliability tools, and engineering applications are effectively used to maximize plant availability, improve equipment performance, and support maintenance and operations teams in continuous improvement.
The engineer acts as a key technical resource connecting Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and Automation/Control Systems.
Some of your duties will include:
1. Engineering Applications & System Optimization
Maintain, improve, and support industrial applications used in fixed plant operations (e.g., CMMS, SCADA dashboards, condition‑monitoring tools).
Work closely with Operations to optimize process parameters and equipment performance.
Develop digital tools, dashboards, and workflows for improving decision‑making.
Support integration of sensors, analyzers, and process monitoring devices in plant circuits.
2. Data Analysis & Performance Improvement
Analyze plant performance data (throughput, downtime, recovery, equipment availability).
Identify operational bottlenecks across flotation, grinding, utilities, and filtration processes.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on chronic equipment and process issues.
Recommend and implement improvement actions to increase overall plant efficiency (OEE).
3. Maintenance & Reliability Support
Collaborate with reliability teams to support predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
Analyze equipment data such as vibration, lubrication results, temperature trends, and instrumentation logs.
Use industrial engineering tools to improve equipment uptime and reduce breakdowns.
Validate and improve work order quality, spare parts usage, and maintenance documentation.
4. Project Engineering & Implementation
Lead or support plant improvement projects such as debottlenecking, capacity upgrades, instrumentation enhancements, and modernization of equipment.
Prepare engineering specifications, technical drawings, and project reports.
Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and contractors to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
Assist commissioning and start‑up of new systems and upgrades.
5. Safety, Compliance & Technical Governance
Ensure all engineering applications and improvement activities meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Participate in risk assessments, HAZOP reviews, and incident investigations.
Promote continuous improvement in safety culture through engineering solutions and automation.
What skills and experience do you need?
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process/Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years experience in mining or mineral processing (copper & gold preferred).
Experience working with fixed plant systems such as:
Crushing & Conveying
Grinding (SAG/Ball Mill)
Flotation Circuits
Thickening & Tailings
Filtration Plants
Water, Air & Reagent Utilities
Hands-on involvement with industrial systems, process monitoring, or reliability engineering.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of industrial equipment, plant processes, and operational workflows.
Skilled in using and optimizing:
CMMS (SAP, Pronto, Oracle)
SCADA / PLC / DCS visualization
Condition monitoring tools
Engineering software (AutoCAD, Power BI, Excel, etc.)
Ability to interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
Experience in RCA, FMEA, and continuous improvement methodologies.
