POSITION: Geotechnical Engineer
1. Job Purpose
The Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for planning, supervising, analyzing, and evaluating soil conditions and geotechnical parameters to ensure the stability, safety, and suitability of infrastructure and structural designs in accordance with technical standards and project specifications.
This role covers soil investigation activities including Borehole (Boring), Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Cone Penetration Test (CPT/Sondir), as well as other field and laboratory soil tests to support design and construction works.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Soil Investigation & Testing
Plan and determine appropriate soil investigation methods (test pit, borehole, DCP, SPT, CBR, sand cone, etc.).
Supervise field and laboratory soil testing activities.
Ensure all testing methods comply with applicable standards (ASTM, SNI, Bina Marga, or other relevant codes).
B. Geotechnical Analysis
Analyze soil test results including bearing capacity, settlement, shear strength, and compaction characteristics.
Define soil parameters for:
Earthworks and compaction
Shallow and deep foundations
Roads, subbase/base layers (LPA/LPB), and retaining structures
Provide clear technical recommendations based on analysis results.
C. Design & Construction Support
Provide geotechnical input to design and construction teams.
Review and evaluate earthwork and ground improvement construction methods.
Propose technical solutions when actual soil conditions differ from design assumptions.
D. Quality Control & Monitoring
Ensure compaction works meet required specifications (MDD, OMC).
Review and evaluate field density and strength test results (Sand Cone, DCP, CBR).
Identify potential soil or ground failure risks and recommend mitigation measures.
E. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare comprehensive Geotechnical Investigation Reports and technical recommendations.
Compile soil testing and field monitoring reports.
Act as a technical reference during audits, consultant reviews, and owner evaluations.
3. Authority
Approve or reject earthwork and soil-related activities based on test results.
Recommend rework or corrective actions when specifications are not met.
Provide technical recommendations to the Project Manager and Site Manager.
4. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical specialization preferred).
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering or earthwork-related projects.
Strong knowledge of ASTM, SNI, and Bina Marga standards.
Ability to read and interpret drawings and geotechnical reports.
Willingness and ability to work on-site.
