Some of your duties will include:
To lead and coordinate daily operations of the Process Fabrication Shop; responsible for welding, fabrication, and structural/mechanical repair support across the entire process plant (Crushing, Grinding, Flotation, Screening, etc.). This position ensures high availability and reliability of plant assets by delivering quality fabrication work in compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards.
1. Fabrication & Welding Operations
Oversee execution of fabrication and welding jobs for fixed plant components: chutes, hoppers, guards, frames, piping support, tanks, etc.
Ensure all welding (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) and cutting (oxy-cutting, plasma) activities follow standard procedures and material specs.
Review and interpret fabrication drawings, isometrics, and sketches to guide fabrication work.
2. Shop Management & Planning
Manage daily workloads, job allocation, shift scheduling, and man-hour utilization in the fabrication workshop.
Coordinate with Planning, Mechanical Supervisors, and Shutdown Teams to prepare fabrication scopes for planned & unplanned work.
Ensure readiness of consumables (electrodes, gases, steel plates, etc.), tools, and lifting equipment.
3. Quality, Safety & Compliance
Enforce compliance with company’s safety procedures (LOTO, Hot Work Permit, PPE).
Supervise and inspect welding quality, surface preparation, fit-up, and dimensional tolerances.
Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and material traceability.
Support NDT (non-destructive testing) coordination when required.
4. Continuous Improvement & Training
Coach and mentor welders and fabricators to upgrade skills and cross-train in new welding techniques.
Contribute to equipment improvement initiatives (modification, redesign of guards, chute liners, etc.).
Recommend fabrication shop improvement (layout, process flow, productivity tools).
What skills and experience do you need?
Tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering qualification at Trade in equivalent industry
Have minimum 8-10 years of experience in maintenance and repair in a mineral processing plant or heavy industrial with at least 5 years in supervisory role in fabrication or mechanical maintenance.
Experience with repair and fabrication of plant equipment such as chutes, tanks, ducts, conveyors, hoppers, and support structures.
Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW), fitting, metal fabrication.; Ability to read fabrication drawings and mechanical schematics; Familiar with workshop machines (cutting, bending, rolling); Understanding of safety standards (e.g., ISO 45001, OSHA, SMKP Minerba), permit systems, and hot work safety.
Have certification in Welder (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, GTAW) – preferred; Certification in Welding Inspector (e.g., CSWIP 3.0 or 3.1, B4T) – an advantage.
Has Frontline level operational inspector certificate (POP) or qualifications certificate recognized by KaIT (Chief Mines Inspector) in accordance with level of position.
Strong leadership and organizational, scheduling & time management skills; Problem-solving and decision-making skills; Ability to work both independently and as a team player and thrive in a fast paced, high pressure environment; Ability to communicate well, and work productively with internal and external individuals; A commitment to safety and environmental a desire to maintain our Indonesian mining operations to world class international standards;
Excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written and computer literate; Proficient in using CMMS (e.g., SAP PM, Ellipse, etc) and Microsoft Office tools: spreadsheet, database, and presentation.
