Amman Academy is a Partnership School (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama/SPK) that implements the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum to provide high-quality education for the children of employees working in the mining industry. As an MYP EAL Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that multilingual learners thrive across all subject areas. This position focuses on targeted language instruction, building academic literacy, and collaborating with teachers to ensure equitable access to the MYP curriculum and successful transition into the Diploma Programme pathways.
Key Responsibilities
Design tiered supports aligned to MYP subject criteria and ATL skills.
Co-plan with content teachers to embed language objectives into units and assessments.
Use WIDA/CEFR-aligned progressions to monitor growth and maintain data dashboards.
Implement features of the SIOP model in secondary classroom contexts.
Develop students’ academic writing and oracy for subject-area success.
Support multilingual identity and access in line with the IB Language Policy.
Prepare students for DP entry through advanced academic language skills.
Uphold child-protection and inclusion policies in all aspects of practice.
Background Experiences
Proven track record supporting secondary multilingual learners in academic contexts.
Demonstrated success with disciplinary literacy in MYP subject areas.
Experience collaborating with teachers on unit design and assessment adaptation.
Familiarity with school-wide language-support systems and progress monitoring.
Prior international school or IB school experience is strongly preferred.
Professional & Educational Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English as an Additional Language, Applied Linguistics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Recognized ESL/EAL teaching qualification or certification.
Strong knowledge of CEFR and/or WIDA frameworks for language development.
Training in IB programmes or MYP curriculum design is an advantage.
Expertise & Competencies
Skill in embedding language and literacy strategies into subject-area learning.
Knowledge of SIOP, GLAD, or sheltered instruction models for multilingual learners.
Ability to coach content-area teachers in integrating language objectives.
Data-driven approach to monitoring student growth and adjusting supports.
Commitment to inclusive education and multilingual identity development.
Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
Work Environment & Expectations
Commitment to IB values within the Pancasila framework, while recognizing the needs of children in a mining industrial community.
Collaborate closely with MYP teachers, MYP coordinator, and the Principal.
Contribute to language policy development, school-wide initiatives, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
Provide direct student support in small-group and push-in contexts.
Engage in ongoing professional learning and remain current on best practices in multilingual education.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling student records and data.
