The Mechanical Lead is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and quality assurance of all mechanical commissioning activities in support of the process plant expansion project. This role ensures mechanical systems are installed, tested, and transitioned into operations in accordance with project specifications, OEM standards, Indonesian regulations, and company policies. The Mechanical Lead manages mechanical commissioning teams, vendors, and maintenance integration for operational readiness.
Reports to Commissioning Manager / Operations Readiness Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Package Management
Lead the development, review, and approval of C2 (Pre-commissioning), C3 (Commissioning), and C4 (Operational Handover) commissioning packages for all mechanical systems and equipment (e.g., crushers, conveyors, mills, pumps, piping systems).
Condition Monitoring and Readiness
Establish and manage condition monitoring protocols during commissioning to detect mechanical anomalies early and ensure asset reliability from startup.
Commissioning Planning and Execution
Develop detailed mechanical commissioning plans aligned with the overall project commissioning sequence.
Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to ensure alignment with design specifications and Indonesian standards (e.g., SNI, SKKNI).
Team Leadership
Lead, coach, and supervise the mechanical commissioning team, including mechanical engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
Punch List and Deficiency Management
Develop and execute plans for mechanical punch list items, ensuring timely closure before mechanical completion and handover to operations.
Maintenance Integration
Develop training programs and hands-on workshops to prepare the mechanical maintenance team for plant operations.
Review and approve preventive maintenance (PM) programs, lubrication schedules, mechanical inspection procedures, and spare parts management plans.
Vendor and OEM Coordination
Manage mechanical vendors’ and OEMs’ commissioning activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures, schedules, and warranty conditions.
Quality and Safety Compliance
Ensure all mechanical commissioning activities comply with project HSE requirements, mechanical QA/QC standards, and asset integrity frameworks
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree (S1) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in mechanical commissioning leadership roles in mineral processing plants or heavy industrial projects (preferably in EPC/EPCM environments).
Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment commissioning, reliability engineering, and maintenance planning.
Familiar with Indonesian regulatory standards (SNI) and international mechanical codes (API, ASME, ISO).
Professional certifications in mechanical commissioning, reliability (e.g., CMRP, CMRT), or equivalent are an advantage.
Proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia (spoken and written).
Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
Experience working in multicultural, remote mining project environments.
Good understanding of project management tools (Primavera, MS Project) is a plus.
