Key Responsibilities:
Safety Compliance:
Monitor and enforce adherence to national and local mining safety regulations.
Ensure that the mining operation complies with company policies and regulatory safety standards.
Regularly inspect mining operations, facilities, and equipment to identify and address potential hazards.
Incident Reporting & Investigation:
Report, investigate, and document all incidents, accidents, and near-miss events.
Coordinate with the team to identify the root cause of incidents and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
Prepare and submit safety reports to management and regulatory bodies.
Training & Education:
Provide safety training for new employees and conduct regular refresher courses for existing staff.
Educate workers on the safe use of machinery, handling of hazardous materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
Organize emergency response drills (e.g., fire drills, evacuation procedures).
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
Conduct risk assessments for mining operations, identifying high-risk activities and implementing control measures.
Develop and implement strategies to reduce the likelihood of accidents or injuries in the workplace.
Work with supervisors to ensure that safety risks are addressed before tasks begin.
Emergency Response Coordination:
Act as the first responder during mining emergencies and coordinate evacuation or medical response when needed.
Maintain the availability of first-aid kits, emergency medical equipment, and communication tools in case of accidents.
Safety Audits:
Lead regular audits and safety assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of safety protocols and improve procedures.
Coordinate with external safety auditors to review compliance and improve standards.
Safety Culture Promotion:
Foster a proactive safety culture by encouraging workers to report hazards or unsafe behaviors.
Organize campaigns and safety events to promote awareness of best practices and safety culture on-site.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
Certification in Mine Safety (e.g., Mine Safety and Health Administration [MSHA] certification) is preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in safety management, ideally in mining or heavy industry.
Strong understanding of mining regulations and health and safety standards.
Ability to communicate effectively with workers at all levels of the organization.
